It is true to say that every boat ever built, carries the spirit of the builder and ultimately the spirit of the owner. The couple who built McCoy have a reputation for fierce integrity and attention to detail; reflected in the thought and craftsmanship that has gone into every detail of her construction.
She is a modified Adams 13M, deeper in the bilge with a lower center of gravity; stronger and stiffer than the fiberglass Adams 13m sister-ships of similar provenance.
Launched in 2008 at Shiplifts-Brisbane, McCoy is the product of forethought and planning, derived from John & Pam Mann’s extensive cruising experience.
McCoy was built for strength and ease of maintenance, to last at least a hundred years. 43′ LOD, 10’2″ beam and 4′ draft with center board raised and 10′ draft with the board down, she is constructed from 4 layers of 6mm Gaboon Marine Ply cold moulded with FGI epoxy with the supplemental (and unnecessary) addition of 3000 copper roves rivetted through all four layers and epoxy encased. The center board slot is encased within the lead ballast with the F/G board itself making no contribution to the hull ballast.
The transom hung rudder (recently modified with new pintels) provides tremendous control in a sea-way.
The bullet-proof rig is 316 stainless 1X19-9.5.mm stainless wire hand spliced so as to eliminate the hard points characteristic of modern yacht rigging. The hand splice will last the life of the wire.
